Thousands of travelers and airport operations impacted by cyberattack on Port of Seattle

The Port of Seattle and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport confirmed that the internet and web outage at the airport was due to a cyberattack.

The outage occurred sometime on Saturday and thousands were affected. Port teams continue to make progress in restoring systems to normal operation, but there is no estimated time for restoration.

According to official information, international travelers are particularly affected, as they have to enter their data manually when checking in for their flight.

“The line is already super long and since they have to enter everything manually, it will probably take us at least another 30 to 45 minutes. It’s really unfortunate. But the first impression is that it’s really bad that we have to go through this,” said Nithin Senthio, an international traveler.

SEA Airport continues to recommend that travelers check in for their flight online prior to departure. If checked baggage is not required, stick with carry-on luggage and allow extra time to get to the airport and gate.

“Terminal screens are experiencing technical issues displaying flight information. Please check with your airline for the latest gate information,” Seattle-Tacoma International Airport said.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) released a statement on the outage:

TSA is aware of the outage of internet service at the Port of Seattle and is working with its partners at the port. TSA operations at the security checkpoint will not be impacted and TSA will continue to screen passengers using its rigorous procedures.

The Port of Seattle has isolated critical systems and is working to restore full operations.
