Tigers are 3-0 after 20-12 win against Florida State

As one of the favorites for a spot in the Group of Five in the College Football Playoff, the Memphis Tigers defeated the Florida State Seminoles on Saturday and took a 3-0 lead.

The Tigers defeated their former head coach Mike Norvell and helped his Seminoles to an 0-3 start for only the third time in the last 50 years.

Memphis had a perfect 4-4 record in red zone trips, with two touchdowns and two field goals. Starting quarterback Seth Henigan was outstanding, completing 26 passes on 39 attempts for 272 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.

Defensively, the Tigers were relentless, forcing three turnovers and sacking DJ Uiagalelei four times on the day. Uiagalelei completed 16 of 30 passes for 201 yards and one interception. Florida State converted just two of 12 attempts.

Linebacker Chandler Martin was Memphis’ leading tackler with eight tackles, including 2.5 for loss and a sack. The Tigers were a constant presence in Florida State’s backfield, totaling 12 tackles for loss.

The undefeated Tigers begin AAC play next week with a trip to Annapolis to face Navy at 2:30 p.m. CT/3:30 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network.
