Titans place Garrett Wallow on the injured list and sign Mikel Jones

Tennessee Titans linebacker Garrett Wallow will be out for the entire 2024 season after tearing a pectoral muscle during training. Unsurprisingly, the Titans have now placed him on the injured list. In his place, the Titans have signed linebacker Mikel Jones.

The Houston Texans drafted Wallow in the fifth round of the 2021 draft. He played two seasons there before joining the Titans in 2023. In his three-year career, Wallow recorded 42 tackles (26 solo), one sack and one pass defensed.

Jones signed with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of Syracuse. He did not make the final 53-man roster and signed with the Dallas Cowboys practice squad before joining the UFL’s DC Defenders in 2024. He has no professionally recorded statistics.

This transaction is more about having players than anything else. If guys like Harold Landry, Arden Key, Jack Gibbons, Chance Campbell and Jaylen Harrell are ready and healthy, a guy like Jones isn’t going to get much playing time.

Football is a tough sport, though, and players are out all the time. Even if the injuries are minor and don’t require weeks of absence, they take time to heal. During that healing time, players are still needed for practice and games. Jones’ signing makes up for the depth that was lost when Wallow was placed on the injured list.
