The Kansas City Chiefs are on their way to a third consecutive win with a 1-0 lead!

The defending Super Bowl champions, led by Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, stayed on top in their first game of the NFL season, narrowly defeating Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens 27-20 on Thursday, September 5, at Arrowhead Stadium in Missouri.

After an early touchdown by the Ravens in the first quarter, the Chiefs followed with one of their own and didn’t let up. They led the rest of the game. They scored two field goals in the second quarter and went into halftime with a 13-10 lead. They scored another touchdown in the third quarter.

The teams traded touchdowns in the fourth quarter, but despite another field goal—and a late play that nearly tied the game—the Ravens couldn’t catch up and the Chiefs emerged victorious.

The final moments of the game had fans on the edge of their seats as the Ravens reached the 10-yard line with just seconds left in the game. With 1 second left on third down, Jackson threw the ball to Isiah Likely, who caught the ball in the end zone, seemingly tying the game and sending it to overtime – but his toe was just over the line, negating the play.

Mahomes, Kelce and the Chiefs have made it clear from the start that they want to win their third consecutive Super Bowl this season and make history. With road games – and over 17 games – still to go, they are on track for their first win.

Kelce’s girlfriend, pop superstar Taylor Swift, cheered on the team and spent time with his parents Ed and Donna in a suite at the Arrowhead. Swift, 34, wearing a denim corset top, jean shorts and thigh-high leather boots in Chiefs red, was spotted giving fans a thumbs up, jumping up and down and hugging Donna in celebration.

Before the game, the team hosted an official pre-game kickoff show, the World’s Largest Tailgate: Tailgate Games. Hosted by Saturday Night LiveAlong with Chiefs superfan Heidi Gardner and actor Rob Riggle, one of the party’s biggest celebs was Donna herself, who made friendship bracelets with Gardner (in a nod to Swift) and showed off her Travis jersey, which he signed with the words, “Love you, Mommy!”
