Trump campaign adviser criticizes Huckabee Sanders for stepmother’s attack on Harris

Bryan Lanza, a senior adviser to former President Trump’s campaign, criticized Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Tuesday night for her comments at a town hall meeting that Vice President Harris does not have children.

“I was also lucky enough to have a stepmother. Without a stepmother, I wouldn’t be here and wouldn’t be able to have conversations, so I found that comment really offensive,” Lanza said in an interview earlier.

“I don’t know what else to say. I’m disappointed that Sarah said that. I’m sure I’ll be criticized by the campaign,” Lanza said during an appearance on CNN. “But I have to defend a stepmother. It’s a tough job. There’s usually a difficult dynamic for people who step into that role.”

He said we should “reward” people who are stepmothers and speak positively about them, he added.

Sanders suggested during the town hall meeting that Harris, who has no biological children but stepchildren from her marriage to Doug Emhoff, “has nothing to keep her humble.”

The governor said her own children are a “constant reminder of what’s important,” adding that when she returns home, they are quick to remind her that she’s not such a big deal.

“So my children keep me humble. Unfortunately, Kamala Harris has nothing to keep her humble,” said Sanders, who was White House press secretary under Trump.
