Tulsa Public Schools celebrates students recognized with academic honors by College Board National Recognition Program | News article

Students from East Central High School, Edison Preparatory, Booker T. Washington High School and Tulsa Honor Academy (a partner school of Tulsa Public Schools) received academic awards from the College Board National Recognition Program. This program recognizes the hard work of thousands of high school students across the country, helping them showcase their strong academic achievements.

These academic awards recognize first-generation students in addition to Black, Indigenous, and Hispanic/or Latino students. The program opens up college entry for more students as many institutions utilize these awards in their recruiting efforts.

The following 26 students received awards:

  • Jonathan Benitez-Diaz, Edison High School, National First Generation Recognition Program and National Hispanic Recognition Program
  • Daniel Brooks, Edison High School, National Indigenous Peoples Recognition Program
  • Ezri Diaz, Tulsa Honor Academy, National First Generation Recognition Program and National Hispanic Recognition Program
  • Janaiyah Dimanche, Booker T. Washington High School, National African American Recognition Program
  • Sofia Escobar, Edison High School, National First Generation Recognition Program and National Hispanic Recognition Program
  • Oscar Garcia, Tulsa Honor Academy, National First Generation Recognition Program and National Hispanic Recognition Program

  • Eleanor Tucker, Booker T. Washington High School, National Indigenous Recognition Program

Eligible students must meet the following criteria to qualify:

  • Identify as Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, Indigenous or Native American, and/or a first-generation student
  • Achieve a cumulative grade point average of B+ or higher (at least 3.3 or 87-89%) at the time of submission.
  • Be among the top 10% of PSAT/NMSQT test takers in your state

We are excited to celebrate our students and recognize them for the great work they have done. We are proud of their strong academic performance in the classroom and their college board ratings.
