Tyrese Maxey sees the vision for Sixers after Paul George’s preseason debut

Tyrese Maxey sees the vision for Sixers after Paul George’s preseason debut

The Philadelphia 76ers got to see what Paul George could do for them on the basketball court in Friday’s 121-111 preseason loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, and the results were encouraging.

George had 23 points on 8-for-15 shooting and grabbed six rebounds. He shot 4-9 from distance and was a dynamic scorer in isolation situations. He scored 13 points in the second quarter and was carrying the offense when things stalled a bit.

Tyrese Maxey, who scored 21 points himself on Friday, sees the vision with George on the Philadelphia roster.

“I really do,” Maxey told reporters after the loss. “I mean, I tried – my goal today was to figure out how to make him as comfortable as possible, at least in the first half. In any case. He kind of let things get out of hand, but so did I. I have to sit back and look at it and see how I can fit in and how I can make sure he fits in with the guys around me, so was “It’s pretty good.”

The fit was almost like a glove. George is someone who can put the ball on the floor and create his own offense when Philadelphia needs him. It will be interesting to see what the offense looks like with Joel Embiid in the mix, but the Sixers can clearly see what George can do alongside a guy like Maxey.

As the preseason continues, how Philadelphia progresses will be something to watch.
