Verizon is down: A widespread outage is affecting users across the US

Verizon is experiencing a massive outage, according to subscribers across the United States. Some of us here at 9to5Mac are also affected by the outage and have no access to any mobile phone connection. This includes cellular data, phone calls and text messages.

It’s not just about you, Verizon is down

On downtime aggregator Downdetector, complaints began to mount about a Verizon outage shortly after 10 a.m. ET/9 a.m. PT. The company did not comment on the problems. There are also numerous complaints on social media.

Verizon has not commented on the outage and there is no timeline for when the issues will be resolved. The Verizon outage impacts phone calls, text messages and mobile data services.

While the details are still unknown, the outage appears to primarily affect users in Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Connecticut, West Virginia and Maryland.

For iPhone users, this means Verizon service will appear as “SOS Only” mode on the iPhone. In a support document, Apple says that seeing SOS in your iPhone’s status bar means your phone isn’t connected to a cellular network, but you can still make emergency calls.
