VIDEO: Roads and bridges washed away in Chimney Rock, North Carolina

Remains of the hurricane have left utter devastation in western North Carolina Helene triggered heavy rains across the region for days.

Images of Chimney Rock, located southeast of Asheville, was one of the many towns destroyed by the historic flood.

The dangerous flooding caused the Broad River to swell and flood the village.

Banff Luther took video of the horrific scene, showing buildings, roads and bridges destroyed by the flooding.

“The devastation is indescribable. We do what we can to help each other,” Luther told Storyful.

Luther is worried about the future of his city and himself.

“Chimney Rock is gone. Flowering Bridge is gone,” he says in the video. “I’m not sure what they’re going to do to get us out of here.”

Officials have been working to rescue people from the city, but flooding has left roads impassable in North Carolina. Part of Interstate 40, which connects North Carolina and Tennessee, was washed away during the catastrophic flooding in Helene, and officials were unsure when the highway would reopen.

The area has received between one and two feet of rainfall since the storm began.
