Vikings-Rams TNF Open Thread: Matthew Stafford’s audition

There’s some drama surrounding tonight’s Thursday Night Football game and there’s a possibility of an audition for one of the quarterbacks. The Los Angeles Rams are rumored to be making a trade with the Minnesota Vikings to send quarterback Matthew Stafford to the Twin Cities.

It’s a bit strange considering current Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold is playing well, but that’s exactly what’s being said. The Rams are probably starting to realize they’re not going anywhere, and the result is a sellout. Wide receiver Cooper Kupp is in action along with Stafford, and the Rams want a second-round pick. Even if the Rams get healthy again shortly, they are in a worse situation than the 49ers, so getting a wild card spot may not be possible.

Meanwhile, the Vikings lost their first game in Week 7 to the Detroit Lions. Not only was it an entertaining game, but it was also a game that gave San Francisco 49ers fans an idea of where the bar currently stands for the NFC – and the 49ers still have a lot of work to do to reach it. Sam Darnold played well, leading some to question whether the 49ers had kept the right quarterback (which they did). The Vikings were a surprise and I don’t think anyone saw them go undefeated for seven weeks.

As things stand, we can hope for a Rams loss that will help the 49ers, or we can hope for a rare Rams win that will give the Vikings another loss and ease the seeding if the 49ers get hot again and other teams take a nosedive. That’s up to you.

The Rams get wide receiver Puka Nacua back tonight, so that’s a good shot in the arm. Given that Kupp is on the line, one has to wonder if his performance could be downplayed.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Vikings have a lead of 2.5 points. That seems small. The Rams defense is fast and there are some issues on the Vikings’ roster after their game in Detroit, but it’s really not much. Give me the Vikings. Also give me the over at 47.5 points. I’m not comfortable with the latter bet, but something tells me defense will be an afterthought in this game.
