Virginia Natural Gas Announces Approval of Phase 4 of SAVE Pipeline Modernization Plan

Virginia Natural Gas (VNG) announced the approval of Phase 4 of its Steps to Advance Virginia’s Energy (SAVE) plan. This new phase, with an investment of $380.5 million, underscores VNG’s commitment to improving the safety, reliability and environmental sustainability of its natural gas infrastructure.

Details:

  • Investment: $355 million to modernize the pipeline from 2025 to 2029.
  • Advanced Leak Detection and Repair Program: An additional $25.5 million will be provided to deploy cutting-edge technologies to efficiently detect and repair leaks.
  • Scope: Infrastructure improvements in Chesapeake, Hampton, James City County, Newport News, Norfolk, Suffolk and Virginia Beach.
  • Environmental impact: Since the introduction of the SAVE plan, VNG has reduced greenhouse gas emissions from its distribution system by 35%.

Virginia Natural Gas’s SAVE plan, launched in 2012, has already invested nearly $480 million to successfully upgrade more than 575 miles of pipeline in southeast Virginia. The company continues to work toward its goal of generating zero direct greenhouse gas emissions from its operations by 2050.
