Volunteer work, donation opportunities in all WNC districts affected by Helene

SINCAIR CARE

Sinclair is partnering with the Salvation Army for Sinclair Cares: Hurricane Helene Relief. Your donation will help The Salvation Army continue to provide meals, clean water and much-needed assistance to local residents and first responders. Sinclair will also provide a corporate donation of up to $50,000 for the first $50,000 www.sinclaircares.com.

Buncombe County

Buncombe County Government Please email [email protected] for anyone interested in providing donations or equipment, or with questions about specific needs.

The following local nonprofits also accept financial donations:

The Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministries (ABCCM) The Medical Clinic accepts medication donations Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Acceptable items include sealed, manufactured bottles that are not expired and do not require refrigeration, and are not controlled substances or cancer drugs.

ABCCM also currently provides primary health care to all adults.

Say district leadersBeLoved Ashevilleaccepts donations and provides food, water, diapers and formula.

MANNA Food Bank launches an important fundraising and distribution effort at the WNC Farmers Market. Donations will be accepted October 2-5 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Items required:

  • Shelf-stable foods (preferably pop-top cans, no can opener required)
  • Bottled water
  • Baby and toddler food and nutrition
  • Diapers

Haywood County

The Haywood County Sheriff’s Office says donations can be dropped off at Woodland Baptist Church, 545 Crabtree Road inWaynesville.Click here for a list of needed items and volunteer information.

Monetary donations can be made to The United Way of Haywood County or send a check to the following address:

In CantonDonations will be accepted behind City Hall (85 Summer Street). Donations will be forwarded to the IP Sports Complex for distribution. Items needed include:

  • Non-perishable foods and pop-top cans
  • Water (gallon jugs)
  • Baby food, diapers, wet wipes
  • Pet food
  • Toiletries (toothpaste, deodorant)
  • First aid supplies
  • Feminine products
  • Soap, disinfectant, paper towels, cleaning products
  • New socks and underwear
  • Batteries (AA, C, D)
  • Rope and tarpaulins
  • Gloves (nitrile, latex, leather)
  • Shovels
  • Bar and chain oil
  • small propane tanks

Anyone who would like to volunteer can also meet at the IP Sports Complex. For more information, call Byron Hickox at 828-734-3946.

Henderson County

The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is asking donors to utilize the newly established donation drop-off location at 118 McAbee Court, Flat Rock, NC

The HCSO said thisDrop off donated items at the distribution center at McAbee CourtAndnot directly at the six other resource locationsThese were put in place because Henderson County has employees at the distribution center who receive donations and distribute them to the six other resource locations for the public to pick up.

McAbee Court is for donations only.

Non-perishable items such as bottled water, toiletries and baby powder are accepted. However, the site does not accept perishable food items or new/used clothing items.

In addition, Henderson County has launched aHealth check status cardformissing contacts. On this map, people whose whereabouts and safety are unknown are shown in red, while the blue dots indicate contacts made.

Please check the map to see if you are listed or if you know the location of anyone on the map. Please call (828) 771-6670 to provide Henderson County with updates on everyone’s status.

McDowell County

For those who would like to help with the recovery effort, below are ways to contribute:

Volunteer hotline:Call our Citizen Volunteer Coordinator at (828) 559-9731 to learn how you can help.

Donation drop-off point:Donations of essential supplies can be made to the Universal Advanced Manufacturing Center located at 634 College Drive, Marion, NC. The following items are permitted:

  • Bottled water
  • Baby supplies (diapers, wipes, etc.)
  • Non-perishable foods
  • Drop-off times are daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Polk County

For those who wish to donate in Polk County but are physically unable to do so, donations and supplies can now be mailed through Tryon International to 4066 Pea Ridge Road, Mill Spring, NC

Anyone interested in making a financial contribution to the recovery effort can make out a check to the Green River Foundation and mail it to the address above with “Hurricane Helene Relief” noted in the memo.

100% of donations go to relief efforts in Polk, Rutherford, Henderson and Buncombe counties in North Carolina and Spartanburg County, South Carolina. 100% of donations are tax deductible.

Transylvania District

That’s what the sheriff’s office says Anchor Baptist coordinates volunteer efforts and accepts donations to support these efforts. Contact Anchor Baptist directly for donations or volunteer availability. They will coordinate to support the distribution of public resources such as food, water and other relief supplies.
