Wait, Heidi Klum was also an incredibly elaborate ET for Halloween?

When we wrote about Janelle Monae’s elaborate, disturbingly realistic ET Halloween costume earlier this week, we ended the newswire with a joke about “Your move, Klum.” Heidi Klum, after all, is the only person in Hollywood right now who has the sheer vibe and brings the energy that Monae puts into an annual Halloween costume and employs numerous top-notch professionals to bring her latest quirky idea to life. (One could argue that Kim Kardashian is also a contender for that throne, but costumes like Kardashian’s 2024 “albino alligator” offering carry an implicit unwillingness to make themselves grotesque and unrecognizable that Monae and Klum have both transcended .) Imagine our genuine shock tonight when Klum debuted her own incredibly extravagant Halloween costume at her annual party… and that was it Also an elaborate, disturbingly realistic ET (Two, actually, with her husband Tom Kaulitz as the regular ET and Klum as the “Drew Barrymore disguised” version.)

And now for the rest of the night we’re just going to try to figure out the social dynamics of what the hell happened to this unlikely alien encounter. Was there espionage or fraud? Were there leaks in the Klum organization? Scuttlebutt in the ET cosplay scene? In an interview with Entertainment tonightKlum, who spent all day teasing her look on social media, said she had literally been planning the costume for a year. That’s a lot of time for loose, meaty, lip-synched lips to sink ships.

For what it’s worth, we’ll find that while Monae’s ET had more of a DIY charm, a close look at Klum and Kaulitz’s ET is insanely impressive, including the extensive prosthetic work they had done to make it look like their own Alien necks and the remote controls that control the eyes and mouths of the ET heads as they speak. Money may not buy happiness, as the aphorisms tell us, but it turns out that it absolutely is so may Buy the best ET costume we’ve ever seen in person, and also the best we’ll hopefully ever see, because we’re actually tired of elaborate, disturbingly realistic ETs, thanks.
