Waterbury Task Force takes action against illegal use of off-road vehicles and dirt bikes

WATERBURY – The Waterbury Police Department’s Auto Theft Task Force has been out in force over the past few days, arresting two people for illegally operating off-road vehicles in residential areas.

On August 8, the Task Force arrested a 14-year-old Waterbury youth who was illegally operating an all-terrain vehicle on Oakwood Avenue.

The teenager, whose name is not being disclosed due to age reasons, faces charges of unauthorized use of the vehicle.

As part of their actions, ATTF officers continued their crackdown on August 10, arresting 23-year-old Lance Morales after he was caught illegally riding a dirt bike on Vermont Street.

Morales was charged with crimes related to his activities.

The recent arrests are part of the Waterbury Police Department’s ongoing efforts to crack down on the illegal use of ATVs, dirt bikes, pocket bikes and other unregistered recreational vehicles in the city.

The agency has made it clear that it is committed to proactive enforcement to ensure safety and peace in local neighborhoods.

The Waterbury Police Department also encourages residents to actively participate in these efforts by reporting any illegal use of these vehicles or sharing information on known locations of such vehicles.

Cooperation at Community level is considered an essential component of effective policing in this area.
