WEATHER WARNING: Flood Warning for Montgomery and surrounding counties

WEATHER WARNING: Flood Warning for Montgomery and surrounding counties

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – With the remnants of Hurricane Helene likely to bring heavy rains to Clarksville, a flood warning has been issued Thursday evening through Saturday morning.

“Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, streams, creeks and other low-lying and flood-prone locations,” the National Weather Service warning said. “Flooding can occur during low water levels.”

Meteorologist Sam Herron of the National Weather Service in Nashville said things will get wild “pretty quickly” when Helene arrives.

“The deep tropical moisture associated with Hurricane Helene will rise this way and drench the area pretty well through Friday,” Herron told Clarksville Now.

An NWS model shows Montgomery and surrounding counties will reach 4 to 5 inches by Saturday. The rain was expected to begin Thursday night.

As the storm approaches, wind warnings may be issued for some gusts of 40 to 45 mph for parts or all of the midstate, but there is too much uncertainty about the exact locations at this time, the NWS said.

“All of this will calm down a little bit as we go through Saturday and Sunday, but there will still be a lot of moisture left,” Herron said. “There have been isolated showers and storms throughout the weekend before it finally passes next week and we return to a drier pattern.”
