WellSpan Health donates land for new fire station in Pennsylvania

WellSpan Health announced that it has donated land in York County to build a fire station for York Area United Fire and Rescue, as well as a public park and recreation facilities.

The health system said it has donated a 12-acre parcel of land along Indian Rock Dam Road to Spring Garden Township.

The property is adjacent to a property owned by WellSpan and used by WellSpan as office space for operations. It also serves as the site of an alternate helipad for the nearby WellSpan York Hospital. This helipad will continue to serve as an alternate site for emergency air transport should weather or other issues impact the use of the WellSpan WellFlight helipad at the hospital.

“This donation will not only improve response times for local emergency services, but will also help expand a community gathering place that is at the heart of our mission at WellSpan: promoting lifelong wellness,” said Alyssa Moyer, vice president of WellSpan Health and president of WellSpan York Hospital, in a press release.

Authorities have been looking for a location for a fire station in western Spring Garden Township for some time.

“A new station is urgently needed to replace the existing Grantley Fire Station, and we hope this land acquisition, a process that began more than six years ago, continues to gain momentum and results in a modern fire station that will serve our employees now and well into the future,” said Daniel Hoff, fire chief of York Area United Fire and Rescue, in the release. “Our employees are extremely grateful to our township commissioners and WellSpan for coming together on this project to help us continue to provide excellent service and care to our community residents.”

York Area United Fire and Rescue serves the communities of Manchester, Springettsbury and Spring Garden.
