What are the security measures for the DNC?

BISMARCK, ND (KFYR) – The Democratic National Convention is less than a week away. Delegates from all 50 states and territories will be in Chicago, and they can expect heightened security, among other things.

Jamie Selzler, a member of the Democratic-NPL National Committee, said the Secret Service was in charge of the event and the party had been told what security measures to expect. He said the Secret Service told delegates to expect the same measures when entering the convention center as they would when boarding an airplane, but with even stricter guidelines.

“For example, when people bring bags or backpacks, they can only be a certain size, they have to be relatively small. There’s a long list of things that people are not allowed to bring, and basically it’s the same thing you would experience at the TSA at the airport. There will be metal detectors everywhere and things like that,” Selzler said.

Selzler said the entire area around the United Center will be cordoned off. He said to get there, delegates will have to take special, pre-approved transportation.

Selzler also said there would be protests and that he had heard that a park would be set up opposite the United Center’s security area where groups could express their opinions.
