What is closed in Wilmington, NC due to tropical weather?

Due to severe weather on Monday, the following locations and events in New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender counties will be closed, canceled or postponed.

Brunswick County Government

Brunswick County government will be closed Tuesday due to severe weather conditions. All Brunswick County government offices, libraries, parks and other facilities will reopen to regular hours on Wednesday, unless additional closures or schedule changes are necessary.

The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners meeting scheduled for Monday will be tentatively postponed to a later date to be determined.

The Brunswick County Landfill and convenience centers will also be closed on Monday. GFL Environmental plans to continue curbside pickup of trash and recycling bins as scheduled this week, including for customers on Monday. Curbside pickup of trash and recycling bins is planned for customers on Tuesday, but that may change based on road conditions on Tuesday.

Customers who placed their trash and recycling bin at the curb on Monday will now be able to pick it up on Saturday. Brunswick County Landfill operations will be evaluated later depending on conditions. Individuals with questions about their bin pickup should contact GFL Environmental at 910-253-4177.

YWCA Lower Cape Fear

Due to adverse weather conditions, the YWCA Lower Cape Fear will close at 4:00 p.m. on Monday to allow staff to return home during the day.

Normal opening hours will resume on Tuesday.

New Hanover County Board of Commissioners/New Hanover County Planning Board

The joint meeting of the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners and the New Hanover County Planning Board scheduled for Monday at 2 p.m. has been postponed due to inclement weather.

YMCA and Novant Health press conference

The press conference originally scheduled for Monday to announce the community health partnership between the YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina and Novant Health has been postponed due to inclement weather.

Restoration project in Halyburton Park

Due to weather conditions on Monday, this media availability will be postponed to Wednesday at 1 p.m.

Tropical weather in Southport, NC, brings flooding and wind gusts

Due to a possible tropical cyclone with heavy rains and storms, several roads in the city of Brunswick are impassable due to flooding.

Due to inclement weather, the Souls to the Polls press conference scheduled for Monday at noon has been postponed. A new notification will be sent out once the new date is confirmed.

Senior Resource Center nutrition site in Carolina Beach closed

Due to flooding on Pleasure Island, the Senior Resource Center feeding center in Carolina Beach (located at the Katie B. Hines Center, 308 Cape Fear Blvd.) will be closed Monday.

Additionally, due to the flooding, there will be no home meal delivery for anyone on Pleasure Island who regularly receives meals through this service.

Regular operations of both the catering facility and home food delivery are expected to resume on Tuesday.

Vehicles flooded after tropical weather in Carolina Beach, NC

Vehicles on several streets in Carolina Beach were flooded after a storm that dumped more than 10 inches of rain hit the area on Monday. Video provided by Evan Pye.

New Hanover County schools will have a remote learning day on Tuesday after closing two hours early on Monday due to a tropical storm.

Students and staff were dismissed two hours early on Monday, according to a district news release. Carolina Beach Elementary School was immediately closed due to flooded streets.

All extracurricular activities are cancelled.

Cape Fear Community College

Cape Fear Community College will close all campus locations on Tuesday. On Monday, locations were closed at 1 p.m. For current information, visit https://cfcc.edu/.

Cape Fear Academy

Cape Fear Academy closes early on Monday. The junior high school closes at 11:30 a.m., and the middle and high school closes at 12:00 p.m.

All extracurricular activities are cancelled.

Campus operations will return to normal on Tuesday.

Schools in Brunswick County

Schools in Brunswick County will be closed on Tuesday. This day will be a voluntary work day for staff.

Brunswick Community College

Brunswick Community College has announced that all campus locations will be closed Monday and Tuesday, with classes being held remotely where possible. This includes the Dinah E. Gore Sports & Aquatics Complex and the Odell Williamson Auditorium.

Pender County Schools

Schools in Pender County will remain closed on Tuesday.

Due to the far-reaching effects of the current weather conditions, all schools will remain closed on Tuesday, according to a press release from the district.

A decision regarding Wednesday will be made no later than Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
