Although the weather is expected to improve on Days 4 and 5 in Kanpur, the time lost due to rain means the competition will be tied.

The second day of the match at the Green Park Stadium was washed out without a ball being bowled after intermittent rain in Kanpur on Saturday. Earlier on the first day of the second and final Test match of the series between India and Bangladesh, only 35 overs were possible, with the start delayed due to the wet outfield while the final session was washed out.

Bangladesh, hoping for a series-level win in Kanpur, were looking to extend their day’s score of 107-3 in the first innings. But on Saturday, before the referees decided to abandon the game, repeated rains kept the blanket up.

What is the forecast for day 3 in Kanpur?

There is also a risk that rain will spoil the game on Sunday and players will once again face a late start. However, unlike Saturday, Day 3 is unlikely to be washed out, but proceedings could be paused, with the chance of rain at 59 percent and the chance of a thunderstorm at 14 percent, according to accuweather.com.

Although weather conditions are expected to improve on Days 4 and 5 in Kanpur, a tie looms over the competition given the time lost due to rain.

What will happen to India’s WTC chances if the Kanpur test fails?

India currently sits at the top of the World Test Championship table with seven wins in ten matches, a winning percentage of 71.67. A 2-0 draw against Bangladesh in the series would have further boosted their chances of reaching the final for the third consecutive time as India needed just three wins from their remaining five chances. And that seemed certain to happen as their next game at home is against New Zealand, who are on the verge of a 2-0 defeat to Sri Lanka in Galle.

However, with India and Bangladesh sharing six points each in a drawn Test, the equation becomes more difficult for Rohit Sharma and his men. Not only do India need to whitewash New Zealand in their upcoming three-Test series at home next month, but they also need to win at least two Test matches in the five-match Border-Gavaskar series against Australia Down Under later this year.
