Over the next two days, we’ll be focusing not only on clouds, but also on the chance of a shower or two. Our storm from the weekend may be long gone, but onshore winds from a high pressure system to the north continue to affect us. It’s this “onshore wind” that can trigger precipitation if you follow it. Combine that with a weak weather system approaching Wednesday and we’ll have a better chance of a few showers late in the day.

These showers will continue into the early hours of Thursday and we hope it stays dry in the afternoon. There will only be a REMOTE chance of sunshine towards the evening.

We are also monitoring the development of Hurricane Helene in the Gulf of Mexico. It is expected to brush the west coast of Florida before entering the state’s Big Bend on Thursday afternoon. Estimates suggest it will be a very strong Category 3 hurricane when it makes landfall, with heavy rains and a significant storm surge that will push water from the Gulf far inland near the coast.

The remnants of the storm will move northwest toward Atlanta, Ashville, Nashville, and Lexington, Kentucky. This will result in a severe flooding event in the interior of the southern Appalachians, but we will largely miss out on rain thanks to the high pressure system mentioned above.
