When will the Middletown Target open? We finally have an answer

For over a year, Middletown Target has been saying, “Coming soon.”

That was when the wholesaler first confirmed that it would open a store in one of Delaware’s fastest-growing areas, in a new shopping center on Middletown Warwick Road in north Middletown. By early 2023, Target’s website listed a Target on Middletown-Warwick Road among the many stores that were soon to open.

For just as long, Middletown’s potential customers have been asking, “How soon is soon?”

Now we finally have an answer. Target hopes to open on October 13, a spokesperson confirmed.

“We are excited to offer new guests in the Middletown community an easy, affordable and convenient shopping experience with this new Target store,” wrote Target spokeswoman Loni Monroe. The store, located at 361 Warwick Road in Middletown, will be approximately 148,000 square feet.

Representatives note that date is subject to change depending on construction or other factors. The store is hiring numerous positions for its upcoming Middletown location.

And like last year, Target spokespeople say they’ll be able to share more details as the store opening approaches, including “how the shopping experience will be tailored to local guests.”.

Delaware Online/The News Journal has been following the long road to building the store since 2022, when we reported on the permitting process in Middletown. At that time, the company had not yet publicly commented on the project.

The store will serve as the anchor of a new shopping center called Northside Shopping Center by developers Lee and Louis Ramunno. A Sprouts grocery store is planned next door. Promotional materials for the mall also show plans for a Hobby Lobby and a PetSmart.

Where are Target stores in Delaware?

If built, it will be the fifth Target in Delaware, joining locations at Brandywine Town Center on Concord Pike, Christiana Mall, Prices Corner shopping center and on Route 13 in Dover.

The Prices Corner Target opened in place of Sears in April 2021. The company completed construction and the store opened about a year and a half after the new location was officially announced, putting the Middletown Target’s timeline pretty much — forgive us — right on schedule.
