Why doesn’t Cristiano Ronaldo play for Al Kholood against Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League?

Cristiano Ronaldo fans were surprised to see the team sheet for the Saudi Pro League match between Al Nassr and Al Kholood as the Portuguese captain was missing from the matchday squad on Friday.

Ronaldo has scored six goals and assisted two more in seven games for Nassr this season and scored the winner in the final Saudi Pro League game, a 1-0 win against Al Shabab.

However, the 39-year-old was left out of the squad for the away game against Al Kholood.

WHY DON’T RONALDO PLAY AT AL KHOLOOD AGAINST AL NASSR?

Ronaldo’s absence from the matchday squad could be a strategic move by Stefano Pioli as the team is doing well in the Asian Champions League. So far there are no reports of any injury to the striker.

At 39, fitness could be an issue for the Portuguese legend, which could derail Al Nassr’s Champions League hopes later in the season.

He has already missed a Champions League clash last month due to a virus infection and was forced to sit out against Al Shorta.

“Al-Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo was not feeling well today and was diagnosed with a viral infection,” the club had posted at the time on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

“The team doctor confirmed that he needs to rest and stay at home. Therefore, he will not be traveling with the team to Iraq today. We wish our captain a speedy recovery.”
