Will Brock Glenn replace DJ Uiagalelei as the Seminoles’ quarterback?

Lausanne football coach Kevin Locastro listens to many sports talk shows on the radio.

As expected, much of the talk locally this week revolved around the No. 25 Memphis (2-0) vs. Florida State (0-2) game on Saturday (11 a.m. CT, ESPN).

The Seminoles’ winless start to the season and subsequent fall from No. 10 in the national rankings to No. 0 have raised questions, many of them surrounding quarterback DJ Uiagalelei and former Memphis coach Mike Norvell.

However, little has been said about former Lausanne quarterback Brock Glenn, who is Uiagalelei’s replacement.

“(Glenn) has a strong arm,” Locastro said of the former four-star prospect. “He can make those shot-to-shot throws. He can throw the ball 55-65 yards. He has great poise in the pocket.”

At Lausanne, Glenn totaled over 4,500 yards of offense and 57 passing touchdowns with 11 rushing scores in just two seasons as a full-time starter. His senior year was his most successful with the program, posting nine regular season wins and advancing to the TSSAA DII-AA semifinals.

“That’s a kid from Memphis (via Covington) down there who won the ACC championship game last year,” Locastro said. “But Brock just got swept under the rug when DJ came along.”

Star quarterback Jordan Travis suffered a season-ending injury in Florida State’s second-to-last regular-season game last year. After a week-long tryout with current Southern Miss starter Tate Rodemaker, Glenn threw for 229 yards and a touchdown in his first career start in the conference title game, helping FSU to an ugly 16-6 victory over Louisville.

Despite a flawless record, Florida State was controversially eliminated from the College Football Playoffs, after which Glenn and the undermanned Seminoles were crushed 63-3 by Georgia in the Orange Bowl.

A season later, with Travis no longer eligible, Glenn is behind another big name: Uiagalelei, the former five-star quarterback from Clemson and Oregon State who transferred to Florida State. Much like his previous stops, Uiagalelei’s game has yet to reach his once-touted potential.

Chants of “We want Brock” erupted at Doak Campbell Stadium last week as FSU lost 28-13 to then-unranked Boston College, the Seminoles’ second straight loss to an unranked opponent. Uiagalelei threw one interception and completed just half of his 42 pass attempts.

If Uiagalelei has problems again, Locastro hopes Brock will get the chance to play against the Tigers.

“I think it would be incredible if his first college game this year was against Memphis,” Locastro said. “He goes to high school in Memphis, knows a lot of the kids on the Memphis team and it would be pretty cool if he got the opportunity to show what he can do.”
