Woman attacked at A-Line station in Pasadena – Pasadena Star News

Officials arrested a man suspected of attacking a woman in a Pasadena subway station Wednesday morning, shoving her onto the tracks at one point and dragging her toward the 210 Freeway.

The woman boarded a train after the attack, said Deputy Kari Mercer of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Transit Services Bureau. The victim was hospitalized and is in stable condition, Mercer added.

The attack, which Mercer called unprovoked, occurred at the Allen station on the A line at 395 N. Allen Ave.

At 5:43 a.m., officers received a call that a man had attacked a woman on the platform, she said.

“He dragged and shoved her onto the tracks. He continued to attack her and drag her onto the highway,” Mercer said.

The woman managed to escape and make her way to the platform.

“Officers spoke with her on the train, where the conductor opened the doors for her until our officers arrived on the scene,” Mercer said.

The man was found north of the platform at an intersection and arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, she said. The sheriff’s department has not yet released his name, age or city of residence.

Metro officials thanked the Sheriff’s Department for the quick arrest of the suspect.

“Metro wishes the woman a speedy and full recovery,” the agency said in a statement.

“The details of the attack on a woman this morning at Allen Station in Pasadena are disturbing and I am grateful that the victim is recovering and the suspect is in custody,” said Los Angeles County Councilwoman Janice Hahn.

Hahn, who is also chairman of Metro’s board of directors, said the board will require a full investigation into the incident, determine where Metro’s police and traffic safety officers were at the time the woman was attacked, and create a plan to increase security during morning commuter hours.

“I am outraged to hear of another attack on our subway system,” said Supervisor Kathryn Barger.

“This incident is a perfect example of why we urgently need to address safety issues, not only in the subway system but also at the stations,” Barger said.

She expects a report from Metro on what security measures are being taken to increase safety, especially during the morning commuter hours.
