Wrong Iron closed after porch collapse during NOLA Saints game | News

Popular Mid-City bar Wrong Iron closed in the middle of a crowded Sunday afternoon after the bar’s porch gave way under the weight of dancing New Orleans Saints fans.

According to owner Rusty White, the porch collapsed about two feet when Saints fans crowded onto the patio shortly after the rain, but it did not collapse completely.

“People were dancing because the Saints were doing well,” White said.

Firefighters, paramedics and officers from the New Orleans Police Department arrived at the scene around 2 p.m. Sunday. A first responder who was not authorized to speak to the press said at least one person dislocated their shoulder in the fall.

Greg Pittman was in the bar when the porch collapsed. He said he heard a loud bang, followed by panic among the bar’s patrons.

“People everywhere started cheering and gasping for air,” Pittman said, “but it was immediately clear that some people were hurt in some way.”

Later that afternoon, police were on the scene directing traffic near Bayou St. John as hordes of Saints fans streamed from the Wrong Iron to the nearby Bayou Beer Garden.

“We’re going to tear this place apart,” said one fan as the crowds streamed into the already crowded bar.

This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.
